Simone Rede, a Portland resident, and an accomplished government auditor announced her candidacy for city auditor today.
Rede currently holds the position of Principal Management Auditor at the Office of the Metro Auditor in Portland, Ore. She became an auditor for the Oregon Audits Division, housed in the Secretary of State's office, in 2013.
“I am running for City Auditor because I want to make City government more accountable and accessible to the public,” Rede said. “I’m excited to build on the office’s efforts to protect its independence, ensure that services are provided equitably, and grow public understanding of City functions.”
Rede is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Government Auditing Professional. Before earning a master’s degree in public policy, she worked as an advocate in Portland-area alternative high schools for students to continue their education.
Rede grew up in Northeast Portland and attended Portland Public Schools. She lives with her wife, Kyndall, and their dogs in the Montavilla neighborhood.
The city auditor is a nonpartisan position. Rede qualified to appear on the May 17, 2022, primary election ballot. She filed for candidacy by submitting a nominating petition with 100 required signatures of registered Portland voters.
