Simone Rede secured Portland's elected auditor position tonight. She ran for re-election unopposed. Rede will be the first to serve a four-year term in her role since Portland’s new form of government took effect in 2025.

“Portlanders trust me to be their independent watchdog,” Rede said. “I’m eager to continue bringing transparency and accountability to the city as Portland’s government evolves.”

Under Rede’s leadership, the auditor’s office reached its first labor agreement with AFSCME, conducted the first city audit of the Joint Office of Homeless Services shelter system, and rehomed the hearings office from city leadership. Rede has also released audit reports highlighting waste and inefficiency in the Portland Housing Bureau, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, asset management, and city operations. Rede’s reports have also identified mismanagement of Portland’s arts tax and its climate commitments.

Rede won the first contested race for city auditor in 36 years with 80 percent of the vote in May 2022. She became the first person of color and the first openly LGBTQ+ person to hold the city’s elected, independent watchdog position when she took office in January 2023. She identifies as a Latina lesbian.

Before her election, Rede spent nearly a decade as a government performance auditor at the state and regional level. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Government Auditing Professional. Rede lives in and was raised in Northeast Portland.
